Lupuspower, a sister company to Polaric, is developing LED driver chips targeted towards 12VAC/24VDC and 110V-230V lamps. Lupuspower believes its devices have several unique selling points.
Electrolytic capacitors are bulky and have a short lifetime. The Lupuspower driver does not need an electrolytic capacitor, which extends lifetime and enables the use of standard low cost SMD cap (the highest capacitor value is 680nF). The inductor value is only 1uH – 10uH. The full LED driver module form-factor is only 1cmx2cm, including all components needed to drive an LED string. The total solution is very cost competitive, and is comprised on a 3sqmm die, package and 7-8 SMD components.
Lupuspower has a working prototype and can demonstrate the world’s smallest LED driver module.
