Aurora Semiconductor, located in Texas, was founded to acquire and redirect a semiconductor wafer manufacturing business to exploit a strong and growing demand for U.S.-based, semi-custom, low to medium volume semiconductor manufacturing services.

Aurora plans to provide seamless full turnkey “one stop service” for wafer manufacturing. It will serve the photovoltaic sensor, mixed signal CMOS, high voltage CMOS, MEMS, and military markets and will provide customers with lab access, which reduces risk of supply interruption, and produces notable savings in product development and supply chain costs.

The company is currently conducting final due diligence on a target facility, and is securing a combination of private equity and debt funding. Aurora expects to close by Q1’09 at the latest. The foundry will address the market for processes > 0.35u.
