Anacon Semiconductor is a seed stage fabless semiconductor company with patents and technology for efficient power elements for mobile applications. Anacon (Analog Conversions) was formed to develop “a breakthrough power saving IC for the mobile electronics, multimedia-centric handheld, battery operated communication, gaming and business machines markets.” The company has five employees and is seeking initial funding now.

Anacon is developing Audio Power Amps (APA) and voltage converters. Its devices do not require inductors, have the highest efficiency, and feature very low noise. The audio amps’ efficiency is over 90% with the highest audio quality (low THD, high SNR), high PSRR, large dynamic range (175%) and can handle digital or analog inputs. Anacon’s invention is also scalable to other power saving applications. New products such as inductorless DC-DC converter for mobile application are under development.

The power management market is crowded with many small competitors and big boys like National, Linear Tech, Maxim, Fairchild, TI, ST, and On Semi, but with no dominant solution or player. Anacon technology is based on standard 0.35u CMOS and is claimed to be cost effective and competitive to existing solutions.
