Jeff Stutzman, Jim McKee, and Tim Platt formed ZNQ3 in the summer of 2002 to provide “world-class authentication and identity management solutions.” The company is currently raising a Series A funding round, which is targeted at between $5 and $6 million.
ZNQ3’s technology is based on Dynamic Key Architecture (DKA), which is a platform-independent security infrastructure solution with a small footprint. Due to the cumbersome nature of PKI, it is not suited for constrained devices or overburdened networks (read wireless). With an 18K client-side footprint, DKA can encrypt mobile traffic without placing a processing burden on the device.
The company expects its early vertical to be the first-responder space (police, EMS, etc.) The DKA system is in the final stages of testing. General availability is expected next month. ZNQ3 wasn’t planning on becoming a fabless semiconductor company, however, “it’s looking more and more like a possibility,” Stutzman said. See more in our sister publication, Mobile Internet Times.
