AANetcom was co-founded in September 1997 by Kal Shastri, Ph.D., and nine others who have made pioneering contributions in the field of high-speed serial communications. The company’s mission is “to provide the highest integration and lowest power multi-gigabit communication ICs.” AANetcom has received $7.5 million in seed funding from Pennsylvania Early Stage Partners.

AANetcom believes the solution to scalability and integration is to replace traditional parallel busses and backplanes with multiple multi-gigabit serial links, which increase communication capacity without increasing pin count and power. The company develops multi-gigabit CMOS serial I/O technology as standard product and customer-specific SoC solutions. Target markets include internet switching and routing, telecom transport solutions, high bandwidth server I/O, and Storage Area Networks.

The company has developed a new approach, using DSP-based communications techniques, to multi-GHz CMOS serial links, which solves noise coupling & power dissipation problems, and allows integration of a large number of multigigabit serial channels with millions of logic gates. I’ts available in 0.25u CMOS at up to 1.6 Gbps, and up to 3.2 Gbps in 0.18u CMOS. The serializer/deserializer cores consume less than 100 mW per channel. The company also has a low-power, DSP-based 10/100 Ethernet physical layer transceiver in 0.25u CMOS. For a complete solution, AANetcom offers high-speed packaging and at-speed mixed-signal testing as well.

Standard products include multi-port, multi-gigabit CMOS transceivers for 1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, OC-48 SONET/SDH, Fibre Channel, SIO, and backplane applications. The company offers Quad and Octal PHYs in two speed ranges: 1.0625/1.25/1.5625 Gbps and 2.125/2.5/3.125 Gbps. The A21Z01 Gigabit OctalPHY is an 8 channel, low power SerDes for 1.0 - 1.6 Gbs applications including FibreChannel, Gigabit Ethernet, proprietary backplanes, and uplinks. The device features 8 fully independent gigbit transceivers, 8B/10B coding, and multichannel trunking capability to form a single 10 Gbps bidirectional link.. A 5-bit parallel interface reduces MAC or switch ASIC pin counts by 50% compared to traditional solutions. The A21Z01 is sampling now.

AAnetcom is focused on communications products like Gigabit switches, WDM multiplexers, ADMs, high-speed transport solutions, and Fibre Channel storage area network switch market. In addition to its standard products, the company will develop customer specific high-bandwidth SOCs that require integrated multi-gigabit multi-channel I/O due to pin-count and power limitations.

AANetcom can supply customers with RTL design kits for its 0.25u (1.5 Gbps I/O) or 0.18u (3.2 Gbps I/O) technologies. the kits include leaf cell and I/O libraries, and memory and high speed I/O megacells. AANetcom will perform place and route, parasitic extraction, scan insertion, and chip assembly. AANetcom will also perform full turnkey design.
