Clarisay develops SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) filters for handheld communications applications. SAW filters are used as intermediate frequency (IF) filters in cellular phones and other handheld wireless applications.
By 2005, industry analysts project over a billion cellular phone subscribers. Digital, multi-band cellular phones require high performance, compact RF SAW filters and SAW duplexers. Next generation phones are using more compact SAW technology to replace ceramic components. According to Clarisay, multi-mode cellular phones require up to a dozen filter chips.
Clarisay’s core competency is in the custom design of next-generation RF SAW filters. Its current SAW porfolio includes AMPS/CDMA filters, GSM filters, EGSM filters, Cordless Telephone filters, AMPS/CDMA Duplexers, GSM Duplexers, PCS filters, as well as custom filters. Clarisay outsources fabrication, which it believes is a competitive advantage, and has cultivated several partnerships with foundries in the U.S. and worldwide.
Clarisay has developed an in-house set of automated design and process characterization tools, which is claimed to result in superior products. Its design methods are claimed to yield performance metrics that are superior to competing SAW filter currently on the market. Through its automated tool set and wafer outsourcing, Clarisay also claims to deliver product in a fraction of the time it would take its competitors just to design and test a similar device.
